“It makes me feel godly.”

That’s how Chris describes suiting up in his Titan BattleGear. And when you hear his story, it’s easy to see why.

A lifelong hockey fan who only recently hit the ice himself, Chris captains Moose Lightning – a beer league team he helped create from scratch, jersey design and all. The team name is as bold as the logo he Photoshopped himself: a moose with lightning bolt antlers.

From street hockey goalie to E-League leader

Chris didn’t grow up playing organized hockey. He played goalie in street games as a kid and grew up listening to Blackhawks broadcasts with his dad and brother in the garage. But it wasn’t until his late brother Michael, a Zamboni driver (“ice technician,” as Chris proudly corrects), inspired him to take the leap.

He signed up for a local "Get in the Game" program, got hooked, and built a team of first-time players just like him. Today, Moose Lightning is three seasons deep and expanding to a second team.

“We’re in E-league – which is newer than D-league. Total beginners, no pressure, no judgment. It’s about fun, learning, and building confidence.”

Why Titan? It started with a blue neck guard

Chris was searching for something that offered full protection without sacrificing style – specifically something that matched Moose Lightning’s sky blue jerseys.

“Every brand was black. Just black. Then I found Titan’s BattleGear’s sky blue. That was it. And once I realized the gear had built-in wrist and neck protection, it was game over.”

He chose the adjustable collar for its comfort around the neck (especially during playoff beard season), and while he initially found the wrists snug, that became a benefit: “It doesn’t move under my gloves. It’s always protecting me. That’s exactly what I want.”

Fearless on the ice – and a bit funnier off it

Before Titan, Chris was cautious about battling for pucks or crashing the crease. Now?

“I’m pushing guys out of the way. Falling? I don’t even think twice. Titan has made me fearless.”

His review on our website – which famously included his wife’s approval and a cheeky question about Titan-branded cups, caught our attention instantly.

And he has more ideas: performance shorts for inline hockey, pond hockey gear, and, yes, wife-approved cups.

He says, “It protects, performs, and looks damn good doing it. I’m all in.”

A family affair

Chris’s three-year-old son Ryan (who made a surprise appearance in our chat) is already being scoped for skating lessons. And his youngest, Connor, isn’t far behind.

“Good hockey names, right?” he laughs.

And while his kids haven’t hit the ice just yet, Chris is already paving the way by being the kind of team leader who prioritizes safety and sets the tone.

Words of wisdom for new players

“You don’t need to break the bank, but there are three things you shouldn’t skimp on: helmet, skates, and neck/wrist protection. Everything else you can go secondhand. But if you’re falling a lot – and trust me, you will – this is the gear you want.”

The Mayo Clinic put hockey neck guards to the test – and most failed

A Mayo Clinic study put popular hockey neck guards to the test – and the results were alarming. Most guards failed to stop a skate blade at real-game impact levels.
